Hello, this is Frank.<\/p>\n

I cannot recall exactly which year it was, but among the entries for the \u201cOne-Letter Keij\u014d Award\u201d hosted by the Fukui Prefecture Cultural Promotion Foundation, there is one piece that has stayed with me clearly.<\/p>\n

To Mom<\/p>\n

\u201cMom, I\u2019m tired of walking!\u201d
\n\u201cThen run.\u201d<\/p>\n

Even now, I\u2019m on the track-and-field team, running.<\/p>\n

\n<\/p>\n

The moment I first read this short letter, a smile came to my face.<\/p>\n

In Osaka we take the \u201cstraight man and comic\u201d banter for granted. But when turned into text on paper, the scene appears so vividly that it feels as if a small stage is set before us. Don\u2019t you feel you can hear the voices of mother and child?<\/p>\n

When a child admits, \u201cI\u2019m tired of walking,\u201d the usual response would be \u201cTake a little rest,\u201d or \u201cTry hard a little more.\u201d But this mother is different. \u201cThen run.\u201d Within those words lies an unexpected yet warm encouragement, a distinct sense of humor. It\u2019s precisely for that reason that this brief exchange remains deeply in the reader\u2019s mind.<\/p>\n

The charm of the \u201cJapan\u2019s shortest letter\u201d award lies in the power of such tightly condensed words.
