Hello, this is Frank.\"When<\/img><\/p>\n

At the end of this short story collection, I\u2019d like to share my impressions, quoting some insightful reviews. Spoiler Alert!<\/span><\/p>\n

The story opens with the phrase, \u201cHajime Hironaka works at the city hall\u2019s family registry section,\u201d immediately inviting readers to imagine the protagonist\u2019s character.<\/p>\n

You can pretty much picture the type: a man leading a predictably dull life.<\/p>\n

But one day, Miyuki Tada, a high school classmate of Hajime\u2019s wife Shizuko, suddenly visits the Hironaka household. From that moment, Hajime\u2019s monotonous yet happy days begin to unravel.<\/p>\n

Unable to bear it any longer, Hajime kills Miyuki. He thinks this will allow him to return to his ordinary life, but Shizuko, who had grown tired of their dull life together, has already fallen in love with her cooking school instructor.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf you don\u2019t agree to a divorce… I\u2019ll go to the police,\u201d Shizuko declares, bringing the story to its epilogue.<\/p>\n

This work proves that you don\u2019t need elaborate tricks; the movements of the human mind are far scarier and more surprising than any contrived plot device.<\/p>\n

That said, from a female perspective, Hajime is the \u201cideal boring man,\u201d and as someone who expected some twist from his job at the family registry, I didn\u2019t find the mystery element particularly shocking.<\/p>\n

While I disagree with Koshi Kurumizawa\u2019s review, which describes the story as \u201ca sharp, stunning blow that leaves you defeated,\u201d I do think the psychological portrayal was quite impressive.<\/p>\n\n\n
