【Marketing】The Core of Affiliate Marketing! Why Elegant Words Can’t Beat Content with Real Substance

Hello, this is Frank.

There was a time when I was completely absorbed in affiliate marketing, checking my ASP dashboard almost every single day. Despite running a simple shopping-style site on a free blogging platform, the response from readers was surprisingly good. Thanks to a bit of beginner’s luck, small commissions began to accumulate day by day.

Of course, behind the scenes, I had initial costs—purchasing a PC, signing up for a server, and various setup expenses—so in reality, I was operating at a loss. Still, when I look back now, I truly believe that I learned an incredible amount during that period.

And the biggest lesson I took away is expressed perfectly in the phrase written in the header:

――Rich in rhetoric but poor in substance

No matter how beautiful your wording is, you won’t make money in affiliate marketing if the content lacks substance. Clever copy alone won’t move a reader’s heart.

The old saying “Fine words and an insinuating appearance are seldom associated with true goodness” rings painfully true. In any kind of business, it’s the value you provide—not the decoration—that people ultimately judge.

Even as I get older, I remind myself daily: I still need to keep sharpening the substance of what I create. Affiliate marketing is like a mirror that reflects your inner self. Customers never judge based on surface-level phrases alone.

――Examine the content, not the bottle.

Readers care less about who wrote it and far more about what is actually being said. That’s why, when I write my next affiliate-related article, I want to approach it as a slightly more evolved version of myself.

By the way, I personally use AccessTrade, an ASP that allows payouts starting from just 1,000 yen and is very beginner-friendly.

Thank you for reading today.
