Hello, this is Frank.
There is one phrase I always mention whenever I talk about life:
――Maturity is the ability to live with ambiguity.
I interpret this as:
“Becoming an adult doesn’t mean you can give clear answers to everything.
Rather, it’s the ability to sincerely accept things in the world that have no clear right answer.”
This is not about an innate capability, but rather an ability cultivated through experience.
And there’s deep meaning in that distinction.
A former student of mine, to whom I once taught English, shared these words on his blog.
Apparently, it left a lasting impression on him.
As we age, we begin to see the world more clearly in some respects—
while at the same time, we come to accept (or are forced to accept) that some things will forever remain vague.
As for me, I hope not only to embrace ambiguity as I grow older,
but to become the kind of adult who can create ambiguity—and enjoy the transformation it brings.
