Hello, Frank here.
When you see a title like “Even After 50…” you might think, “Hey, is he talking about me?” Well, you’re absolutely right! (And yes, I’m chuckling as I write this.)
But honestly, sharing real-life experience is the most powerful way to connect. As someone who spends hours consulting, teaching English and Spanish, hosting seminars, and counseling—all while glued to my computer—I know firsthand how easy it is for your back to stiffen up. Sometimes it feels like my spine is turning to stone!
I know many of you are in the same boat, stuck in a chair for work. A quick stretch isn’t always enough to banish that nagging back pain.
That’s why today, I’m sharing the daily back-pain prevention routine that keeps me moving. Everyone’s different, so take this as my personal experience—not medical advice. If your pain is severe, please see a doctor!
Frank’s 6-Step Mobility Routine for Staying Back-Pain Free After 50
- Morning Core Activation: Right after waking up, I do about 5 gentle crunches and back extensions on my bed. It wakes up my core and back muscles.
- Standing Back Stretch: Standing tall, I cross my hands behind my head and gently arch my back 5 times. This opens up the spine and counteracts all that sitting.
- Standing Squats: Without moving your hands, do 5 squats. This gets the blood flowing and loosens up your hips and lower back.
- Take the Stairs: Whenever I go out, I always use the stairs—up and down. Skip the elevator or escalator unless the building is over 4 floors.
- Stand While Teaching: If you’re in a teaching or consulting role like me, try to stand instead of sitting during lessons or meetings.
- Perfect Your Posture: When climbing stairs, focus on keeping your posture upright. It makes a huge difference!
Even just these six steps can help ease back pain and keep you moving. And remember, if your pain is intense or persistent, don’t hesitate to consult a healthcare professional.
Walking and moving more isn’t just about preventing back pain—it’s the key to better health and more freedom at any age.
