That’s right. What defines a successful trading professional is a unique personality and a distinct strategy. And yes—your suitcase should reflect that too.
Back in my trading days, I had a system: I’d buy a suitcase in Japan, use it until it was worn out, then purchase a new one during an overseas visit and have the old one taken in for disposal. Efficient and strategic.
Destinations like Singapore, Hong Kong, and South Korea often offered quality suitcases at less than half the price you’d pay in Japan. The key? Always check the interior thoroughly before buying.
When you’re in your 20s and constantly flying, quantity matters. Affordable Southeast Asian options can do the job. But once you hit your 30s and carry a job title, it’s time to upgrade.
When a client picks you up at the airport, rolling up with a flimsy case doesn’t look great. Your luggage should match your age, title, and the business context. Choose wisely.

On some of my international assignments, I’d clock 20 to 30 flights before returning to Japan. There were moments when I’d honestly ask myself, “Wait, where am I headed now?”
