Today, let’s talk about the word “cheap.”
When you want to say something is affordable in English, it’s easy to default to words like cheap or inexpensive. But here’s the catch—these words can give off the wrong vibe, especially when talking about places like restaurants.
Take this example: “Yasui fastfood resutoran-he ikou.”
If you translate it directly as “Let’s go to a cheap fast-food restaurant,” it can sound like the restaurant is low-quality or run-down. Not exactly what you mean, right?
A better, more natural expression is:
――Let’s go to a fast-food restaurant that is easy on our wallets.
This captures the idea of affordability without implying poor quality. It’s like saying, “Let’s go somewhere that’s kind to our wallets.”
