Hello, this is Frank.
Back in my student days, I dated a few different women, and each of them left me with unforgettable memories.
One summer night by the sea, I was watching the stars when a girl from Okayama looked up and whispered, “Isn’t it beautiful?”
Another time, I stood on a snowy train platform without an umbrella. As the train pulled away, a junior college student from Himeji looked at me through the window and gently mouthed, “…Tha-nk yo-u…”
These are just some of the many, many heartwarming memories I carry with me.
Welcome to the emotional world of <Frank>’s “Seya-Tanka” — short modern Japanese poems with a sentimental twist. I hope you enjoy it.
~Rearview Mirror~
Fading away
Your silhouette in my rearview
Still I look back
As I turn the wheel
And drive toward tomorrow
*Note*
I vaguely recall reading this tanka somewhere before. Though the memory is fuzzy, I’ve borrowed and reshaped it here.
