Hello, it’s Frank.
Let’s face it—our world is drowning in stuff. Smartphones, cars, laptops… the list goes on and on.
Honestly, I believe we should have a law that says unless something breaks, we use it for at least five years. This endless cycle of buying, upgrading, replacing—it’s too much. Do we really need the “latest model” all the time?
Lately, many of my English students have been saying, “Frank, you can actually get a pretty good price for that.”
That got me curious. So I Googled and Yahoo’d “recycling,” and sure enough, there are billions of results. Not only is industrial recycling booming, but selling or trading in your used consumer goods is seriously hot right now.
Think about your home. Got old electronics? A dusty stereo system? Maybe even that old cassette tape collection or the fridge you just replaced?
Records you don’t play anymore, guitars, amps—wouldn’t it be great if someone could take them off your hands? Even better if you make some cash in the process. Let’s be real: that’s the dream.
Here’s a quick list of things you can sell:
- Idol merchandise
- Audio equipment
- N scale model trains
- Alcohol
- Furniture
- Brass instruments
- Precious metals
- Gift cards
- Postage stamps
- Video games
- Cosmetics
- CDs/DVDs
- Sporting goods
- Smartphones
- Celebrity goods
- Dolls
- PCs/Tablets
- Figurines
- Beauty gadgets
- Luxury brands
- Blu-ray discs
- Secondhand clothing
- Mountain bikes
Why not take the opportunity to tidy up your space and earn some pocket money?
By the way, I even found a buyback service for model trains. Maybe it’s time to sell the old trains gathering dust at my parents’ house…
We live in a society of endless production and disposal. Sometimes I wonder: is this progress—or are we just spiraling into wasteful decline?
