One of my online students recently shared a beautiful quote with me:
――The way I see it, if you want the rainbow, you gotta put up with the rain.
It’s a famous quote by Dolly Parton, the queen of country music.
――In other words, if you want to see the rainbow, you’ve got to endure the rain.
It reminds me of the old saying: Every cloud has a silver lining.
There’s a big difference between the view from a mountaintop reached by car and the one you climb to, step by step.
Sure, shortcuts might exist. But if all you care about is getting there fast, the feeling at the finish line might be just that—fast and fleeting.
“Everyone wants shortcuts,” I tell my English learners, “but if you take the long road, fewer people are there, and the fruit is often richer.”
Even if there’s no dazzling rainbow, sometimes after the rain, the muddy stream clears up little by little—and if you look closely, you might just spot a glint of hidden gold dust.
That rainbow or gold isn’t just nature’s beauty—it’s your reward for making it through the storm.
Tears you shed today may become a shining bridge to your future.
