Hello, this is Frank.
Today, let’s talk about Ulcerative Colitis—commonly known as UC.
Did you know that the late Prime Minister of Japan, Shinzo Abe, once suffered from this chronic condition? UC is an inflammatory bowel disease where ulcers form on the colon lining, causing persistent discomfort and serious health risks.
Experts believe that one factor behind its rise in Japan is the shift toward a more Westernized diet—high in meat, calories, and fat. Unfortunately, these eating habits can worsen the condition.
In Japan, UC is officially recognized as an intractable disease and qualifies for public medical expense coverage. Common symptoms include bloody stools, diarrhea, and abdominal pain—all signs that require immediate medical attention.
Treatment often involves medications such as 5-Aminosalicylic Acid. Abe himself praised Asacol as a “miracle drug,” and similar medicines include Salazopyrin and Pentasa.
Keep in mind that stress, overwork, and lack of sleep can worsen UC symptoms. Work-life balance isn’t just a slogan—it’s a necessity for your health.
