Hello, this is Frank.
This site features a section where we introduce “wonderful doctors.” For our very first story, I’d like to share a moving experience I had with a doctor’s thoughtfulness.
I believe it was when my daughter was still in kindergarten. One night, she suddenly developed a high fever and was having trouble breathing. I couldn’t just sit by and do nothing, so I put her in the car and drove to the nearest emergency room (ER) in the middle of the night.
I chose to drive her myself rather than call an ambulance, partly because I couldn’t stay calm enough to wait, and partly because I was worried she might be frightened by the sight of an ambulance.
Depending on the situation, some might feel safer calling an ambulance, especially considering hospital acceptance. But for some reason, at that moment, I decided to take her myself.
The doctor who saw us was in his mid-thirties. He spoke gently to my daughter, checked her pupils and throat, and listened to her chest with a stethoscope.
After a while, the doctor said,
“Don’t worry, Dad. She’ll be fine. But just to be safe, please bring her back to our pediatrics department tomorrow for a follow-up.”
Hearing his words, I felt a wave of relief. What surprised me even more was that, even though she hadn’t received an injection or anything, my daughter’s complexion was already looking better.
The next day, when I took my daughter to the hospital, the pediatrician greeted her while looking at a slip of notepaper.
“So, you’re [daughter’s name], right? You did so well last night!”
Curious, I asked, “Doctor, what’s that note?” The female doctor smiled and explained:
“You went to the ER last night, didn’t you? That doctor left this note for today’s checkup.”
She told me that the note detailed the time we arrived at the ER, my daughter’s condition, and other specifics. At the end, the ER doctor had even written, “Thank you for taking care of her,” for the next doctor.
Still smiling, the pediatrician added,
“That doctor is so kind, and everyone loves him. He’s one of our most popular doctors.”
After the checkup, as I was walking out of the hospital holding my daughter’s hand, I heard someone call, “Excuse me, sir!” It was the ER doctor from the night before.
“I’m glad to see [daughter’s name] is feeling better,” he said. “Please don’t worry anymore.”
I thanked him for his thoughtful note, and he replied,
“As a doctor, that’s just what we do.”
Tears welled up in my eyes, and I bowed deeply to him.
“As a doctor, that’s just what we do.” But in reality, it’s not always easy to do what should be “normal.” Meeting such a wonderful doctor is a memory that still shines as a treasure in my heart.
