Hi there, I’m Frank.
Let me share a few thoughts about how I (someone who’s not exactly the most disciplined person) manage to stay healthy. Feel free to take this with a grain of salt—but lately, I’ve been wondering: “Maybe it’s because I’m so laid-back that I stay healthy?”
Here’s what this easygoing guy does to stay well:
1. I switch gears fast.
When something unpleasant happens, I give myself 10 seconds max to dwell on it—then I force my brain to move on. Why? Because stressing out is bad for my body. And since I love myself dearly, I immediately stop doing anything that harms my health.
2. I don’t smoke.
I quit cold turkey more than 20 years ago. Haven’t touched a cigarette since.
3. No foreign substances in my body.
No meds, no vaccines. Not even for COVID or the flu. My whole family is the same—we skipped them all.
4. I sleep.
At least 6 hours a night, preferably 8. I don’t mess with my sleep.
5. I never skip meals.
I always eat breakfast—no exceptions. For dinner, I go easy on my stomach with foods like natto, tofu, and vegetables. Sometimes I have an apple. In fall and winter, I enjoy a good persimmon.
6. I take showers, not baths.
Hot baths might be better overall, but I’ve found that getting my head too cold leads to catching colds. So I stick to morning showers. Haven’t caught a cold in over 10 years.
7. I joke around.
Whether I’m doing online consulting or teaching English and Spanish, I try to crack a joke or two. Laughing with clients and students makes everything better. Even when I’m writing blog posts, I come up with jokes as I go.
8. I exercise—just enough.
No marathons or extreme workouts for me. They can weaken your immune system. I go for light walks, stretch a bit here and there—nothing too serious. I’ve never skipped my daily “Frank-style lazy stretches,” which I do morning, noon, and evening.
9. I do a bit of anti-aging care.
I eat almonds to boost my good cholesterol and flush out waste. I also make sure to get enough iron to prevent anemia. This one’s actually serious—my daughter recommended it, and I follow her advice religiously. This might be the one thing I don’t do “half-heartedly.”
So that’s how I stay healthy—without overdoing it.
Hope you found something helpful in here!
Stay chill, stay healthy.
