Hello, this is Frank.
Do you know how to read this Japanese idiom「文質彬彬」? You can probably handle 「文質」 as “bunshitsu,” right?
Actually, the full reading is “bunshitsu hinbin”. It originates from The Analects of Confucius.
“Bun” refers to surface design, while “shitsu” refers to the material underneath. Think of a ceramic vase: the glaze and patterns on the surface are the “bun,” while the bare clay body is the “shitsu.”
If the body is too raw and exposed, it looks crude. If the design is too flashy, it looks tacky. When they’re both balanced and refined—that’s “彬彬 (hinbin).” It means elegance in harmony between form and substance.
In sports, having just muscles isn’t enough. In academia, just flaunting knowledge isn’t impressive either. A true “gentleman” has both substance and style in balance.
The same goes for affiliate business.
As Confucius said, “Fine words and an ingratiating appearance are seldom associated with true virtue.”
Using a slick blog template is great, but the real focus should always be on the content of your pitch.
Let’s be honest: from a guy’s perspective, someone with just a flashy exterior isn’t as attractive as someone who shines from within. (Just my opinion, haha.) The same goes for your business—substance first, and the profits will follow.
Is your affiliate content coming off as pushy? Are you just changing the template and calling it a day? Has your surface-level SEO really increased your revenue? Maybe it’s time to rethink your long-term strategy.
“Bunshitsu Hinbin”—balance between outer appeal and inner substance. Keep it in mind. Build an unshakable core belief.
