Hello, I’m Frank.
Today, I want to share an experience from my time working for a trading company when I traveled to Australia. During my visit, I decided to take a ride on one of the local trams. It was on that tram that a few young Australians looked at me and said, “Jap!” in a condescending manner.
I was furious and instinctively retorted, “What the ****?” Reflecting on it now, I realize that perhaps I shouldn’t have responded so harshly. However, at that moment, I couldn’t stand the blatant disrespect and prejudice against Japanese people. Maybe it was just a part of growing pains, but it left a lasting impression on me.
This incident made me think a lot about how we deal with discrimination and ignorance. Standing up for yourself feels right in the moment, but it also makes you wonder if there are better ways to handle such situations. Nonetheless, it’s a reminder that respect and understanding are crucial, no matter where we are or who we encounter.
This site’s here for sharing travel experiences and recommending cool spots in Oceania, particularly Australia. Feel free to drop a comment. They’ll go up once the admin gives them the green light.
