Hi there!
Have you ever become trapped in a vicious circle? Never? You’re so lucky! I faced a sobering reality from the first year I joined a trading company. “What the hell are you doing!?” The day started with rotten tomatoes, which I got pelted by Procurement Department Director.
――”No profits at all due to your miscalculation!”
He threw away an export price calculation paper at me.
It was my fault. The director identified my dreadful blunder in the apprentice period. That was the “writing on the wall” (a sign of approaching disaster).
He had no choice but to renegotiate the purchasing price with its vendor. The shipment ended with a recurring delay, and worse, the buyer fell behind in their payment.
How many times did I hope for a miracle to occur, the miracle that would help me get out of this predicament? I knew miracles were great, but they were so unpredictable.
That was karmic justice. I shouldn’t have belittled any task I was given for being a professional Shoushaman. I learned the lesson.
To eliminate the memory of this vicious circle, I challenge eradicating the recurring part of a repeating decimal.
Convert the repeating decimal \(0.0\dot{9}\dot{9}\) to a fraction.
Here is my solution to the problem.
Put \(x = 0.0\dot{9}\dot{9}\),
1000x = 99.99・・・・・
-10x = 0.99・・・・・
\(990x = 99\)
∴ \(x = \frac{99}{990} = \frac{1}{10}\)
