第９回目から練習問題を解いて基礎力を固めてもらいます。
今回のテーマは、＜正誤問題で総合力を試す＞です。
英語学習者の殆どは、正誤問題を苦手としているようです。
その理由は、文章を何度読んでも間違っているところが見つ
からないからだと。
では何故すぐに見つけられないのでしょうか。私が考えると
ころ、その大きな原因は２つあります。
１つ目は：
「ネイティブ英語で書かれた英語には間違いはない」という
ネイティブ神話や固定概念を抱いていること。
２つ目は：
英語の感覚が身に付いていないから。
さて１つ目ですが、書かれた英語を見た段階で、日本人は
「この英語は専門家が作った英語だから間違いはない」と
固定概念を持って誤りを探そうとしない。即ちパッシブリ
ーディングになっていしまっているのです。
今あなたが持っている文法力や語彙力を駆使して、英文の
完成度をチェックしてみてください。たとえあなたが英検
２級レベルであってもかまいません。
大事なことは、あなた自身が判断することなんです。
さもないといつまで経っても、英文の質を判断する
基準を持てないことになってしまいます。
２つ目は、リーディング量の絶対的な不足です。できるだけ英字
新聞や小説などを読んで、＜連結語＞即ち言葉の繋がり（コロケ
ーション［silo mentality（縄張り意識）など］）を意識しつつ、
ジャンル毎によく使われる語彙を整理しておくことが大事です。
2015年5月現在、TOEICにはこの正誤問題が出題されていませ
んが、総合力を判断する上では必要な問題形式だと私は思ってい
るので、今日はこの問題にチャレンジしてみましょう。
